We are engaged in food, and people at all times, whether it is an economic rise or, conversely, a crisis, will eat something.
The departure of Western brands from the Russian market is a gradual process, moreover, it is easy to find a replacement. The expectations of an analyst choir who tried to assess the situation was much worse than reality: in general, the Russian economy coped with a sanctions blow. The President of the X5 Group explained this by the fact that in recent years the Russian consumer has acquired “awareness of the choice” and many buyers began to purchase goods online.
Why is this happening? The fact is that large trading formats are now experiencing a crisis. Discounters and shops at the house are growing. This trend was outlined before the beginning of the Pandemia of Coronavirus. There is no spelled strategy for the next five years. But the eurospar network revenue is growing. The buyer gradually gets used to it, and this pleases us. We have invested a lot at the start, but we are no longer investing in Kazakhstan for the past year and a half - the business is growing due to the cash flow generated by Kazakh stores on its own.
The active stage of investing in this direction is completed. Now the operating profit is enough to open 7-10 stores per year in Kazakhstan.
An indisputable plus of Kazakhstan compared to Russia is lower taxes. If we talk about foreign investments, then we now have a complete confusion with this, a bunch of prohibitions, because of which investors have no desire to invest in Russia. And Kazakhstan is all free: please come and invest. In addition, Kazakhstanis are very reverent to investors. For them, an “investor” is almost a sacred word, and we almost forget it.
We now have another agenda on television screens and on the lips of politicians. But for the development of the economy, it is necessary that it be open for investment. In general, now the right time for the start? Firstly, I am already 50 years old, and I cannot take the market through the eyes of young. I believe that you need to start doing business in Russia at 20-30.
And we must choose those industries in which the older generation does not understand. Probably now it should be something related to digital technologies. Opening today a cafe or a food store, you will not earn enough money to develop further. We need a super -chorginal idea and a supermotivated team. And if we talk about some conservative sectors, then we will need tremendous luck in order to pave the way for success.

I think globally. The company can make many tactical decisions without my participation. I can be as included in some current specific project, so not know what is happening in the details in another.
