William Textrey Biography
The characters are carefully discharged and unshakable in adherence to their ideals. On a journey through Victorian England, the reader is accompanied by an author - a puppeteer who lovingly amusing his puppets, he invites to follow his imagination.
For example, Pitt Crowley's family lunch. At first, only an abstract dining table appears, at which chairs are built in an even row. Then, as William Thakereei pays his meticulous writer's attention to one or the other guest, they appear in a sequential order at the table according to the wave of a conductor's wand. And despite the fact that in the title there is clearly a curious explanation that this is a story without a hero, the most vivid character is still the incomparable Becky Sharp.
A heartless woman, a skillful intriguing, a liar and a rotary hitch, a worthless wife, a disgusting mother. Her god - money and position in society. It belongs to those who cannot do without people even if they turn them as she wants at their own discretion. It was created in order to shine, to be adored by men and despised by women. This impressive list is more than enough to feel all the hostility towards Mrs.
Crowley, but every vice through a comma is the equally undeniable dignity of this bold woman, that which gives her brightness, interest and sinful attractiveness. Farn it - and he, in turn, will look at you; dare to him and with him - and he will become your funny comrade.
In fact, in this book, such a bunch of people can be getting tangled. I will start two young girls. The beloved Miss Emilia Sadley with tears in her eyes leaves his bosom girlfriends, while Rebecca Sharp, as if he finally escaped, leaves. Count's house for governess. The position of the girls in society is strikingly different: Emilia is spoiled by care and is well -maintained by wealthy parents in a good boarding house, where she met orphans Rebecca, which, in principle, had no chance of getting into this institution.
I can’t admit to the affection for Rebecca, but her desire to be in the highest social society can be understood. Especially when the author, and the character himself, constantly remind of her poor position of an orphan working governess. In relation to Emilia, I also cannot express any warm feelings. This girl is like plasticine: she was inspired since childhood that she would marry George Osbourne, so she did not resist and, it seems to me, even invented a huge love for this person.
This same George Osbourne, in turn, upset me with his selfish disposition. And the way he behaved when he disobeyed his father. In my opinion, he did it purely from his own vanity and stubbornness than from some feelings, if he had them at all. She did not want to give him anything, but I wanted him to give her everything. This, described by Tekikemi, society accepts each other only because of money.
False and hypocritical so much that the more deeply you plunge, the more indifferent and unbearable you become in relation to all characters. The minus for me is that the story is very long. The farther and farther you slide your eyes along these lines, the more boring and more predatory. When you walk at the same fair and see the same faces, you want to run away from there and spit on the main performance, just to stop seeing this huge tinsel hiding empty faces.
